Interlibrary Loans

Can’t find what you’re looking for in our Library catalogue? We can get physical library items from libraries across Alberta!

Search TAL Online, and place your request. You will need to have a valid St. Albert Public Library card.

If you can’t find the item you want at TAL Online, visit our Information Desk on the 2nd floor or call us at 780-459-1682. We will do our best to find what you are looking for.

Do I have to pay for an interlibrary loan?
No. This service is free at St. Albert Public Library.

What happens once I placed my request?
We’ll look at your request. We will either place the interlibrary loan request, or we buy the item if others patrons would want it in the collection. In either case, we will place a hold for you on the item, and contact you once it arrives.

How many items can I request at one time?
Five (5) items at one time

How long does it take to get my interlibrary loan?
From two (2) to six (6) weeks. Sometimes it can be longer.

How long do I get to keep my interlibrary loan?
The lending library sets the loan period. Generally, it is three (3) weeks. Interlibrary loans are not renewable!

What happens if I damage or lose an interlibrary loan item?
You are responsible for the replacement cost of the item plus an administrative fee. The lending library sets the cost, and it could be costly.

Can I suspend or delete my interlibrary loan, like other requests?
Once we start the process, it is hard to stop it. Please do not request an interlibrary loan if you will not be available for the next six (6) weeks.

What does TAL stand for, anyways?
TAL stands for The Alberta Library. This is a province-wide consortium of 48 libraries in over 300 locations.
